Not All Corten Steel Is The Same

Most Corten products sold online are 1.6mm imported steel. It flexes, it bows, and it won't hold a straight line under soil pressure. Ours is 3mm architectural-grade with a folded profile — fabricated in-house at our Bayswater workshop and ready for same-day pickup. Built by landscapers, for landscapers and homeowners who'd rather do the job once.

At 3mm thick this is not the thin, wobbly retail edging you've seen elsewhere. Fabricated at our Bayswater North workshop from Corten steel.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Built for home DIYers or trades who need a timeless garden edging with no maintenance. If you're after the thinnest, cheapest option on the market, we're not it. If you want to install edging once and forget, this is it.

NOT ALL CORTEN EDGING IS THE SAME

Most Corten edging sold online in Australia is 1.6mm thick. It flexes under soil pressure, kinks between stakes, and struggles to hold a straight line on anything other than flat ground.

Ours is 3mm Corten Steel — engineered to stay straight, resist bowing, and handle real soil loads without extra bracing. It's the difference between retail garden edging and what professional landscapers want on their jobs.

WE ALSO SELL CORTEN STEEL STAKES

We recommend 3 stakes per 2400mm length for standard garden bed edging, or 4 per length for curves and retaining applications. Stakes are sold separately.

  • 5 lengths of edging = 15 stakes minimum
  • 10 lengths = 30 stakes
  • 20 lengths = 60 stakes

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Corten edging stain my pavers or concrete?

During the first 4–12 weeks while the patina develops, there can be rust-coloured runoff during heavy rain. We recommend leaving a small gap between the edging and any light-coloured pavers, concrete, or stone during this period. Once the patina stabilises, runoff effectively stops.

How long does it take to develop the rust patina?

In Melbourne's climate, you'll see significant colour change within 4–8 weeks. Full stabilisation typically takes 3–6 months depending on how much rain and sun the edging gets. It arrives raw silver/grey steel and darkens progressively to the classic warm rust finish.

Is this Corten steel or just mild steel?

All our edging is fabricated from architectural grade Corten weathering steel. Unlike mild steel which rusts through and deteriorates, Corten forms a stable oxide layer that actually protects the underlying metal. Our Corten edging is 3mm thick, nearly double the 1.6mm thickness sold by most online retailers in Australia.

How do I install it?

Dig a narrow trench to the depth you want the edging to sit, place the edging in position, and drive stakes on the front face every 600–800mm using a rubber mallet. We recommend 3 stakes per 2400mm length for straight runs, or 4 per length for curves. No specialist tools required.

Can I get custom lengths or heights?

Yes. We fabricate everything in-house at our Bayswater North workshop so custom sizes are no problem. Contact us with your requirements and we'll quote within 24 hours. Standard lead time for custom orders is 1–3 business days.

Do you deliver?

Yes. Local delivery across Melbourne starts from $25. Contact us for a quote based on your location and order size. Most customers choose to collect from our Bayswater North workshop for same day pickup.

What's your return policy?

We offer 60-day returns on all standard products. If you're not happy, return it unused and uninstalled in original condition for a full refund. Custom fabrication orders (non-standard sizes made to your specifications) are non-refundable. Full details are on our returns policy page.
